We went with school meet the mardi gras world and it had a little shop where we can buy things related to the carnaval, where I found this little man and loved it, so I took a picture!

I was walking in downtown when the bus stopped at the sign and I took this picture!

 I liked it because it encourages the people who lives here like the tourists to take care of the city.

Olena: New Orleans

Photo 1 –“The chef”

This photo shows the one of the most important part of New Orleans life.  It is composition of the famous delicious food including seafood and alligators. New Orleans is surrounding by the swamps and where are many gators. Louisiana has a legend the Santa Clause arrives on gators to kids on Christmas and brings them gifts.

Photo 2 – “Nature”

Our nature is the most talented painter. The colors are so shine and different. People can image various pictures from clouds looking on the sky. Sometimes it is so symmetric and impossible to understand how it can be. The clover is another miracle of nature. The leaves put together in the same way. The strips on leaves always painted in the same way.

Irma: Things I Like

This is one of the jester of Mardi Gras. It is one of the most representative character of the many krewes that perform in the Mardi Gras parades. It is showing a multicolor attire. This gold green and purple jester consists of a large over-the-head mask with hat and boot covers. The hat is decorated with pom-poms. The joster of Mardi Gras is a representative of the celebration that this festival brings on. I really like this character because it represents the happiness, joy and the local culture of New Orleans.

This is a strong oak tree. The reason why I like this picture is because It gives me the idea of a long lasting life represented by its wide trunk and ever changing leaves. Another reason is because it sends the message of security and safety by looking at its majestuosity and strong roots, and finally because it brings the sense of peace and tranquility just by looking at it.

Serena: Friends and Memories

The first photo:

I took this photo in residence in front of Bruff Commons on Tulane university. It's very special dog sculpture. I heard this story from my tutor. This is called Mardi Gras Bead Dogs. We can see many bead dogs around New Orleans recently. The dog sculpture is part of a public art and fundraiser launched by SPCA(called Paws on Parade). The Tulane bead dog was designed by students. I think this is good way to show native culture.

The second photo:

I took this photo on last saturday. Of course this was parade! This was my first time to see the parade. There are a lot of interesting people in the parade. They made-up with mask. They wore different costume. They performed and sent beads to the side of the road.There were small floats in the parade. The shape of floats were very special. I got some beads. That were definitely shining and nicely.

Olena: Words in Signs

“I wish I would have it”

This photo was taken in the famous restaurant “House of Blues”. I chose this photo because I think it’s a good composition of food and picture.  It is the picture of Afro-Americans woman which close her eyes and thinking about something pleasant. The food it is one of the thing that bring us happiness. When I opened my imagination I can tell she think “What’s the delicious food, I wish I would have it”.

“FOR SALE”

“I have a good truck for sale. It’s almost new and always clean. This monster is not only a good drive but is a good swim. ”

I think about this when I look on the picture. I don’t know how this car got there and how long has been on that place, however, it looks good. It doesn’t have any rust. When I look this photo I think about joke. In the same time it was not much fun for someone who lost a vehicle.

Kevin: Words that are Weird

I took this photo in my trip. In this photo have three fat people. I seen a big hamburger on the table and a lot of people seen them. I don't know what are these people doing. I thought these people just look the fat people eat big hamburger. I want know how about it, I asked a person. the person told me, this is contest for eat hamburger. I thought who can first eat this big hamburger, who has take some prize.

 Hi, everybody! Can you guess what is it in my hands? I took this in Sam's club market. I thought this is a gun. But when I hold it I found it is alcohol. The person who wants to buy it, maybe doesn't want to drink it, the purpose is for display. 

Sister Hien: Words of Interest

The first photo I took from The Times Picayune on Friday 3, 2012. The film " A Perfect Family Adventure " by Jack Anniel and Micheal Begler A universal picture. The film show " Heartwarming A whale of a great tale. " the film inspired by the incredible true story that touched the wrold. I love A perfect family adventure film.

 

The second photo I also took The Times Picayune on Friday 3, 2012. The photo shows Louisiana crawfish make up a $ 180 million industry. The live crawfish are selling in New Orleans area at anywhere between $ 3. 00 and $ 4. 40 a pound and boiled between $ 3.70 and $ 4.00. Most retailers recommend calling a head to reserve a superbowl.  Crawfish in New Orleans is very good.

Why? I chose this picture because as I am from Brazil, I found it funny when I saw an image of those in the U.S..

AMEN - it is so; so be it (used after a prayer, creed, or other formalstatement to express solemn ratification or agreement).

 SUPER - an article of a superior quality, grade, size, etc.

SAINTS - any of certain persons of exceptional holiness of life, formallyrecognized as such by the Christian Church, especially by canonization.

In the image is a football team of New Orleans.

WHY? I liked this image, because since the first day I arrived in New Orleans I noticed how people love and cheer for the team, all the houses adorned with flags and other things for the saints! and this picture shows when they won the superbowl.

This photo was taken at Yosemite National Park. This unlucky car was attacked by a bear.

Bears aways try to find food in visitors' cars. Unfortunately bears do not know how to open doors. So they always make damage. Bear warning!

 This photo is displayed in Ogden Museum of Southern Art .  Elliott Erwitt was from North Carolina.He took this photo in 1950. Only white people could use the left bigger drinking machine. Others had to use the small one. At that time, the color of skin decided social status and racial discrimination was very serious.

Olena The description of photos

Hello everybody, I am Olena. I am from Ukraine. In my first photo I put some flowers, seashells, and one picture. I like to bring home a few different things and place them in different places in my house. These seashells I brought back from Florida, when I traveled with my family. I like to buy little pictures with different colors and different meanings and put them on the wall. I like when I have real flowers in my home. All of these things make my home warm, more beautiful, and more comfortable. It’s so interesting when you can change a place, when you live in different ways.

On the second one I put different beads. I think it is so nice when   you can change your clothing, to make it more expressive. You can be a painter in your life, working with colors, working with different things. It’s so nice for a woman to dress up in beautiful clothing  and put some style beads around the neck. It can be one color or a mix for different colors.

And in the third one I put three books. They are books that can help me in my future, to create it, and change it for the best. My dream is to be a lawyer and I need to read a lot of   special books. An important book is the LSAT one, a book which can help me to prepare for the most important test if I decided to go to a law school.  Also, it is so interesting for me to read Law books. I can find similarities and differences between American law and Russian law.

Here are three things that show a part of who I am!

I love my team (Sao Paulo soccer club), I learned from an early age about the rules on his story and so I became a super fan.

The golf ball, is in this picture, because I love playing sports, having fun, meeting friends at the club.

And the stuffed dog symbolizes my passion for dogs, care and play, that makes me very sad to see how some suffer from hunger, beaten, etc.

  I chose my computer, phone and car key. I chose the computer, because, everyday if I want to finish all the homework I need to use computer. I have homework everyday, some homework, I just use computer to do it, so, computer helps me do much thing.

  I chose my phone, because, phone is very convenient, I can call every people, if I am bored, I can use my phone play some little games. In last semester, I go back China, in the plane, I'm bored, I just look around in the plane, that time, I took my phone play much little games, it is nice for me.

  I chose car key, because, I like my car too much, I think a good car can give me enjoyment , I look a good car, I have happy mood, I drive car time, it is very passion, so, I study in American, car give me much convenient, if I want to buy something, I can dirve do it, this things in my life are importent for me.

I had a paper-cut, cookbook and whiteboard in my photograph.

I chose them because they describe my new life of studying abroad in US.

I like some traditional things in china. We have spring Festival holiday in this weekend in china. So I put the paper-cut on the door to celebrate this holiday. In china, the red paper-cut means happiness and luck in nest year.

Another thing is a whiteboard in my room. It had very interesting sentence on the whiteboard. My friend wrote" I can not speak chinese" on it. It always reminds me to speak english. Everything is english first. It improve me to practice my speaking skill. I think that is good for me.

The last thing I put on the photograph that is my new cookbook. I never cooked before I came to US. So it's difficult to me. I try to study and make some traditional chinese food in the future. The dumplings are the first thing  that I want to making. I think I will do it better soon.

All the things in the photograph can describe my new life in US recently. That the reason why I put these together to introduce myself.

Three things that introduce me

I chose three objects for my Photo assignment as follows; a telephone, cooking magazine and a CD. The reason I chose a telephone is because I love communicating and it represents the way I converse with my family and friends abroad and in the U.S and how important it is to me. The cooking magazine represents my passion for cooking at home especially light food and I always need to see the recipes in order to teach myself cooking. CD music is another of my hobbies I enjoy listening to music especially romantic and classic. Finally, I think these three objects introduce me as a person that loves communicating, cooking, and enjoying good music.

CoCo

 I chose a travel book, a camera and a speaker in my photo. These

three things stand for my life.

     Travel is a very important part in my life. If I make a plan to go

somewhere, I will read some travel books about that place. "Lonely

Planet" is a nice book for travel. It helps me to find good

restaurants, cheaper hotels and interest places every time.

     I like taking photo. I always take my camera when I go to other

places. I will take photo of some people walking on the street. I

also like taking photo for some animals when I see them. I love to

record different lives using my camera.

     I put a speaker in my photo because I love music. Without music, I

do not know how to life. When I have time at home I will turn the

speaker on to let the music fill of my house.

My Photo

            I am Sister Hien Pham The Holy Rosary Sister. My Convent lives in New Orleans East. I love Vietnamese culture. I took my photo in my convent . The photo has 1 vase lucky plant and two happy New Year cards, the year is dragon in 2012. I chose this photo because Vietnamese New year is on Monday January 23, 2012. The Mary Queen of Vietnam Church will have a big festival on January 27, 28 and 29. It has three days celebration. During on these days they will have a lot of Vietnamese foods on the festival day. They also will have music and singers will come to sing many Vietnamese songs. Many people will come to listen to music and enjoy to eat the Vietnamese foods especially they will be all together to meet and to talk with others.

Sister Mo

Yesterday I chose three objects together one photo.  One is a colorful vase that is made by Vietnamese people.  The different  colors mixed together that described many beautiful aspect around in our life.

Second, the Vietnamese New year' card that made me happy because it is coming very soon.  I would like someone to celebrate with our country.  I am happy because I love a flower that name '' Yellow Flowers " use

for Vietnamese New Year only.  It reflect  the hope, confidence and joyful  that I put away many unlucky behind me and welcome a New year .

Third I chose some pencisl and pens  because they remindered me to us them to write composition in English. Although my English language still has many faults in gammar and structure in senteces., I was confident by mysefl " Don't be afraid ".  My English language is still progressing if I take time to write a short tensences everyday.  These are all different aspect that my object that help me to learn through an experiences in my life.

Thank God for many opornitues that I receive from God through my teachers.

I chose 3 different objects, but I could not find objects that complete describe myself  Who I am, so I chose a world map ,a TV show (Supernatural), and gloves.


--Why you composed chose them?


I chose them because, first the world map is something that Im going to do soon. I really like to travel and my dream is to take a trip around the world. The second one is my first America TV show and I like it so I spend time and money in this seasons.


And the last one(gloves), the meaning for me is like When you don't have something to do , You should be doing something and for me work out is a great choice for me , but You can choose whatever way maybe football, basketball,pin pon , etc.

I didn't compose the photo in anyway just I took the picture this mornig the next time Im going to think composition in a artistic way.
